World Ocean Day

The ocean covers 70% of the earth’s surface and it drives the world’s climate. It is home to millions of species and we rely on its biodiversity for our survival.

We are experiencing a massive decline in this biodiversity which is weakening the ocean ecosystem. This impacts not only the 1.4 billion people who live around the coastal tropics or the 3 billion people who rely on the ocean for their main source of protein. It impacts every single one of us.

The purpose of World Oceans Day is to raise awareness of our impact on the ocean and mobilise action for sustainable management of the world’s oceans. Should we be doing more to protect the life in our ocean and the most vulnerable coastal communities? We think so. The Rocket Foundation will soon welcome a new portfolio project focused on community led marine conservation and we will be fundraising to maximise the positive impact creation.
Happy World Oceans Day!
