Oceans cover more than 70% of the earth’s surface. They produce at least half of the planet’s oxygen and absorb around 30% of the carbon dioxide produced by humans. The sea is home to most of our biodiversity and around 3 billion people globally rely on this for their livelihoods.
We need to use this year’s World Oceans Day to raise awareness and support for the goal of safeguarding at least a third of the ocean by 2030.
The Rocket Foundation partners with Blue Ventures in an effort to support this goal. Blue Ventures work with local communities in vulnerable coastal areas building sustainable livelihoods through conservation. We are currently fundraising to support the expansion of their work into the Philippines in an island province whose economy is reliant on fishing in a fragile marine environment.
