Celebrating the Jal Sahelis – International Women’s Day 2024

The Jal Saheli’s are a group of women in India who have taken action to address water security.

🤝 Engaging the communities and government,
👩‍👩‍👧‍👦 Educating and spreading awareness about water practises, and
🚰 Implementing plans to build and rebuild water bodies to revive the water supply

By promoting rainwater harvesting and other conservation methods, these women have helped to replenish groundwater levels and mitigate water scarcity in their communities.

Additionally, the Jal Sahelis have empowered women by providing them with leadership roles in water management, traditionally a male-dominated field. By involving women in decision-making processes related to water, the program has contributed to gender equality and women’s empowerment in rural India.

This model is truly inspiring and their achievements are outstanding – returning water to villages despite the dry conditions across the region.

Something to celebrate this International Women’s Day!
