Velafrica

Velafrica connects work and integration in Switzerland with development in Africa. They collect old bicycles, refurbishing them with social institutions and exporting them to its partners in Africa. Exported bicycles are sent to bicycle centres which serve as hubs for sales and repairs, vocational trainings and bike related jobs. To date over 300’000 bicycles have been exported to Africa and they plan to reach one million bikes by 2030.

Reforesting Baran

Reforesting Baran is an ambitious project to rejuvenate and reforest 125 sq km of degraded land in Rajasthan, India. Land which was once dense forest, but due to lack of water, soil erosion and famine it has crossed a tipping point of ecological degradation – no water, no trees and severe soil degradation. This project is at the very beginning and it not only has huge potential to restore biodiversity and store thousands of tonnes of carbon, but also to restore a basic healthy life for the tribes and communities who rely on this land.
